Join us in celebration of Samuel Kóláwolé's debut novel, THE ROAD TO SEA SALT, published by Amistad.

At The Inkwell Denver Curator Hilary Leftwich hosts Samuel along with guest readers Arvin Ram and Julia Madsen.

This special reading will be followed by a Q&A panel moderated by Wendy J. Fox.

OUR READERS

Samuel Kọláwọlé was born and raised in Ibadan, Nigeria. His work has appeared in AGNI, Georgia Review, The Hopkins Review, Gulf Coast, Washington Square Review, Harvard Review, Image Journal, and other literary publications. He has received numerous residencies and fellowships, and has been a finalist for the Graywolf Press African Fiction Prize, shortlisted for UK’s The First Novel Prize, and won an Editor-Writer Mentorship from the Word. He studied at the University of Ibadan and holds a Master of Arts degree in Creative Writing with distinction from Rhodes University, South Africa; is graduate of the MFA in Writing and Publishing at Vermont College of Fine Arts; and earned his PhD in English and Creative Writing from Georgia State University. He has taught creative writing in Africa, Sweden, and the United States, and currently teaches fiction writing as an Assistant Professor of English and African Studies at Pennsylvania State University. He lives in State College, Pennsylvania.


Julia Madsen is a first-generation college graduate from rural Iowa, Julia Madsen earned an MFA in Literary Arts from Brown University and a PhD in English/Creative Writing from the University of Denver. Her first book, The Boneyard, The Birth Manual, A Burial: Investigations into the Heartland (Trembling Pillow Press), was listed on Entropy’s Best Poetry Books of 2018. Her chapbook, “Home Movie, Nowhere,” was published with DIAGRAM/New Michigan Press in 2021.





Arvin Ram is the owner of Townie Books and Rumors Coffee and Tea House in Crested Butte with his wife Danica. He is a 2020 One Story Adina Talve-Goodman Fellow and a 2022 MacDowell Fellow. His words can be found in the Jellyfish Review, the Normal School, and the Asian American Writers Workshop. He is currently working on his novel-in-progress titled, A New West. 







Q&A MODERATOR

Wendy J. Fox is the author of four books of fiction, including What If We Were Somewhere Else (SFWP, 2021), which won the Colorado book and received a star for excellence in the genre of short-stories in Booklist. Her 2019 novel, If the Ice Had Held, was a top pick in audio for LitHub. She has written for many national publications including SelfBusiness InsiderBuzzFeed, and Ms. and authors a quarterly column in Electric Literature focusing on independent books.
